What this is

Session 6 is the first ShopX room in mainland China, and Chris did not run it — he was the guest. Benny 跨境圈 has been running its own cross-border coffee chats in Shanghai for 54 sessions; this was the 55th, and Chris came to walk through one thing in depth: how his team uses AI to research ads.

The room was cross-border sellers, brand teams shipping out of China, and media buyers. The venue was hosted by DeepLumen.

Who this is for

The afternoon was pitched at four groups, and that mix is roughly who turned up:

  • Shopify and independent-site sellers running their own storefronts.
  • Brand teams going cross-border out of China.
  • Media buyers who live in the ad account.
  • People exploring AI and looking for a use case that pays for itself.

How the session runs

Five topics, in order, each one building on the last:

#TopicWhat it covers
1How AI helps ad researchFinding strong ad creative and trends faster
2Analysing ad creative with AIPulling apart structure, copy, audience and landing page
3Competitor ad analysis with AIReading a competitor’s media strategy and how it is performing
4Finding growth from the dataDigging out growth paths you can actually repeat
5AI tools in ecommerce operationsReal cases, and a walk through the tool itself

What you take home

The through-line is that ad research is the part of the job most teams do by hand and by feel — scrolling ad libraries, screenshotting competitors, arguing about what is working. The session was about what happens when that becomes a tool you run instead of an afternoon you lose.
